Seeing as I can’t seem to make the time to make it to Japanese lessons, I have taken to learning the basics using Pimsleur’s Japanese I (I have been wondering who Pimsleur is) in my car. I have made it through lessons 1 and 2 and have managed to remember everything so far. I have done lesson 3 once and am currently repeating it. There were some tricky ones in there, I am getting confused between demo, jok and mada. As pleased as I am with my progress so far, I am wondering how this will serve me in real life. The normal pronounciation is much faster than I can say words at the moment. There are also some words which I am having trouble pronoucing, such as the word for “you”. Practice makes perfect I guess.

I am really looking forward to throwing myself into learning another language. Its always been something I have wanted to do, but I have consistently made a half-assed effort. I gave up learning Italian as soon as I could in high school and my Nepali lessons fell to the way-side as soon as I returned to Melbourne. The only thing I can remember is “Where is your mother”? And only because I said it all the time in Kathmandu, getting tired of all the begging children.
Bring on Japanese.

Hey something else you could try is japanesepod101.com, I’m using it at the moment. (as random as this might be I know how it feels to know people are reading your blog)…
Good luck in japan!
